- How do I go about booking into The Portland Hospital?
Depending on which care you choose you will be booked in either by a Consultant or Midwife. We offer a Consultant or Midwife led delivery for all mothers-to-be expecting a normal delivery.
- How soon will I need to book into The Portland Hospital?
The best advice is to book in as soon as possible.
- How do I choose a Consultant?
There are three options one can take in order to choose a Consultant:
- Choose from our comprehensive list of Consultants who have admitting privileges at The Portland Hospital.
- Through your own GP referral.
- Through personal recommendation from family or friends.
- Can I choose our postnatal room?
You are automatically allocated your postnatal room. You can place a request for a room of your choice. However your request is not a guarantee as room allocation depends on what is available on the day, especially when the unit is busy.
- What are the differences in the bands?
All the postnatal rooms are private rooms. The facilities are the same in all rooms; the difference is in the size. The deluxe is a large room with a large bathroom, the double-bedded room has a double bed you can share with your partner and the suite has an additional adjoining room for guests. All rooms can accommodate your partner on a separate folding bed, subject to an additional companion charge.
- What facilities are available in the postnatal rooms?
All the rooms have the same facilities. They all have en-suite bathrooms, a mini fridge, a television and a private phone. Please note that you will not be allowed to use a mobile phone within the hospital as they may interfere with the medical equipment. You will be advised to switch your mobile phone off, once inside the building.
- How many postnatal bedrooms are there?
There are a total of 30 postnatal bedrooms across two dedicated floors. These comprise 2 deluxe rooms, 4 suites, 3 double bedded rooms and 21 standard bedrooms.
- What facilities are available in the rooms on the Labour Ward?
The Labour Ward has all of the necessary facilities available for the birth of your baby and has been designed to make you feel at home. All the delivery suites are private and have en-suite bathrooms. This provides the opportunity for all patients to have the choice to labour in water in their en-suite bath if they so desire. Each room is fully equipped with vital equipment necessary to monitor the mother and baby during labour and once your baby is born. Individual choices of birth position are encouraged with beanbags and rocking chairs being available for use in labour
