Ultrasound
The Portland Hospital provides a premier ultrasound scanning service. Affiliation with major teaching hospitals in London ensures that our ultrasound scanning services provide our patients with all the benefits of the recent technological advances.
All women's health ultrasound services are available and are performed by highly qualified sonographers with breast imaging performed by our specialist Consultant Breast Radiologist.
Both transabdominal ultrasound (looking at the abdominal wall) and the transvaginal ultrasound (looking through the vagina) are available. The transvaginal technique is now the preferred method of scanning, providing superior image quality, looking at the womb and ovaries.
Ultrasound of the pelvic organs is useful for finding cysts on ovaries, examining the lining of the uterus, investigating causes of infertility and looking for cancers or benign tumours in the pelvic region. Ultrasound is also the tool of choice for many musculo-skeletal investigations.
